Malcolm Turnbull releases film of CFMEU official’s threatening tirade

MALCOLM Turnbull has released expletive-ridden footage of a CFMEU official storming a Queensland job site, threatening to attack supervisors and shut down the project.

MALCOLM Turnbull has released expletive-ridden footage of a CFMEU official storming a Gold Coast job site, threatening to attack supervisors and shut down the project.

The confronting tirade at the Parklands Commonwealth Games Village Project will be used by the Prime Minister to show how builders are bullied by cashed-up unions and why the nation needs a construction watchdog.

The Courier-Mail can reveal the Government will bring forward the reintroduction of the Australian Building and Construction Commission as early as today.

The Bill could now pass the Senate with the support of the crossbench, with independent Nick Xenophon urging the Government to ensure the sector uses Australian Standards building materials.

Mr Turnbull will today argue the “militant” CFMEU in Queensland treats court fines like “parking tickets”.

The leaked footage shows a CFMEU official driving on to the worksite, demanding more safety procedures be put in place because it is raining.

He has no fear of threatening people — even though he knows he is being filmed. The Grocon safety adviser says he is already putting measures in place. Then they have this exchange:

CFMEU official: “What do you want to do? You want your job shut down for another two days? Look at (inaudible). Youse want to f--- with me, I tell you now (inaudible) mate. Get off your f---ing ass, you’re supposed to be a safety adviser. Blokes actually reckon you’re not a bad bloke so why don’t you prove it?”

Grocon employee: “The way you drove in is not on. And you’re actually trespassing OK?” CFMEU official: “Go f--- yourself. Film it. Because you know what, I got a lot more f---ing money and loyal people. Grocon employee: “You’re trespassing. You need to leave, now.”

CFMEU official: “Drive you c---. You know what? You know what, I know your phone number. I know where you live c---. I’m telling you now.”

Mr Turnbull told The Courier-Mail that union militancy was rampant across Queensland worksites.

“We have seen example after example of bullying and standover tactics, thuggery and lawlessness of the CFMEU.

“Their lack of concern for the workers they claim to represent has had an impact on thousands of construction workers right across the country. As numerous judges have observed, the CFMEU and its fellow militant unions treat these penalties like parking tickets.

“They treat them as a cost of doing business. It is a cost of their breaking the law.

“It is a cost they ignore because their level of intimidation over the construction sector is imposing a tax, a lawless tax on every Australian.

“Despite court penalties of $1.7 million last financial year, the CFMEU has shown no sign of slowing down its campaign of intimidation, standover tactics and illegal pickets.”
