Former Queensland detective Zac Aaron Chudleigh accused of stealing iPhones

The 31-year-old former detective senior constable has faced court after being charged with fraud and stealing offences.

A former cop has appeared in court accused of stealing from a police station while on the job.

Zac Aaron Chudleigh, 31, was a detective senior constable, but he has since resigned from the Queensland Police Service.

He appeared in Brisbane Arrests Court on Thursday charged with two counts each of fraud and stealing. It was the first time the case has been heard in court.

Court documents reveal Chudleigh is charged with stealing an iPhone in November 2021 from Dutton Park Police Station while acting in his duties as an officer.

He is also accused of stealing a black Apple iPhone from an address on Loganview Road in Logan Reserve in July 2021, again while acting as a police officer.

The ex-cop is further charged with fraudulently obtaining $700 from Cash Converters in Stones Corner sometime between July 29 and August 13, 2021.

He is also accused of fraudulently obtaining $500 from Cash Converters in Stafford on November 20, 2021.

It is not alleged he was acting as a police officer when the incidents of alleged fraud occurred.

Chudleigh was formally charged on October 31 and issued with a notice to appear in court on Thursday.

During the brief mention in Brisbane Arrests Court, solicitor Calvin Gnech of the firm Gnech and Associates, acting for Chudleigh, said the charges were indictable offences.

Mr Gnech asked for an adjournment to sometime next year, disclosing that his client has another ongoing matter before the courts.

The case was adjourned to Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 20, 2025.

Chudleigh, who is originally from Forbes in New South Wales, was granted bail on his own undertaking.
