Masked thieves have stolen $50,000 worth of cigarettes in a brazen midnight ram raid on a southwest Brisbane newsagency, with police now searching for the trio.
Dramatic footage aired on 9 News shows a silver Holden Calais bursting through the security shutters of the business in Blunder Rd, Oxley, sending shelving, products and broken glass flying across the shop floor about midnight on Sunday.
Two masked men are then seen scrambling to grind the lock off of the cigarette cabinet shovelling armfuls of packets into makeshift sacks.
The vehicle – which had been stolen – was used in another break and enter another Oxley business on Sherwood Rd shortly after according to a police spokesperson.
Police are now searching for the three offenders.
Newsagent owner Mylina Ho, says it was the second time her business has been targeted by crooks in the past six months.
“They’re always targeting cigarettes,” Ms Ho told 9 News.
“They’ve destroyed the whole front part of the newsagent this time and it’s very hard to get back on track every time this happens,” she said.
The silver Holden Calais was later found abandoned by police and is undergoing forensic examination.
Investigations into both of the robberies are under way and police are asking members of the public with information to come forward.
