GARRY LYON isn’t ready for a comeback yet, but there are plenty of offers on the table when he is.
Lyon is a wanted man.
Despite taking a step back from public life to deal with mental health issues, his phone is ringing off the hook.
It’s understood manager CRAIG KELLY has been approached by Channel 7 and Fox Footy.
He has also been touted as “the face” of Gold FM if it comes out a winner in the bid for AFL radio rights, which have stalled in negotiations.
Lyon humbly downplayed any suggestions of the numerous job offers in an exclusive interview with Page 13 this week.
“I’m not sure about any of that,” he said.
Asked if he was keen to return to the media spotlight, he said he was focused on his recovery.
“You’ve got to get yourself right first. Working on getting healthy, that’s the main thing.”
There is good reason the networks are knocking. The natural successor to TheFooty Show’s original ringleader EDDIE McGUIRE, Lyon had built up a media career that saw him on the telly and heard on the airwaves as often as McGuire. Whether calling the game, expert analysis on a panel or with a pen, or ribbing as host with his mates on-air, in footy-obsessed Melbourne people feel they know someone with a profile as high as Lyon’s when they tune in.
Still under contract with his Channel 9 family, it’s understood it would be close to impossible for him to return as Footy Show host with BILL BROWNLESS.
It looks like for now we will all have to wait, with powerful player agent Kelly holding the keys.
“That will get to me when the time is right, I guess,” Lyon said.
