There is triple the chance of victory for Phoebe Tonkin at Friday night’s big celebration of Aussie film and television.

Tonkin is nominated in three categories at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards to be held on the Gold Coast.

“I have never been nominated before so it is kind of surreal and exciting,” Tonkin told The Daily Telegraph.

“But they were two projects that I really believed in, so I am just glad and excited that they are getting recognised.”

It has been a phenomenal year for Tonkin, a veteran of the industry at just 35.

She’s up for best actress in the Netflix adaptation of Trent Dalton’s hit book Boy Swallows Universe, best actress in the film Kid Snow, as well as the audience choice favourite actress alongside the likes of Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and Cate Blanchett.

“I am just excited to be in a room of all of these people that I look up to and that want to work with or have worked with years ago and have been on this journey with,” Tonkin said.

Russell Crowe will host the awards, with Robbie Williams and Henry Cavill among those attending.

Williams’ Better Man is the most nominated film of the night, with 16 nods, while George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and BINGE’s How to Make Gravy both have 15.

Held at the Home of the Arts (HOTA) on the Gold Coast, the awards will be broadcast on Ten at 7.30pm, with an extended version, including all awards from the ceremony, to screen on BINGE and Foxtel from 7.30pm on Saturday.

“It is nice to be here celebrating and seeing everyone again,” Tonkin said.
