His tour rider insists that meat or meat by-products cannot be served in the dressing room, catering areas or production areas.

While meat products will still be sold to punters, extra vegetarian options will be made available at his two shows at AAMI Park on tomorrow and Wednesday.

McCartney, 75, has not toured Australia since 1993.

His backstage rider is remarkably basic for one of the highest-selling artists of all time.

The main requirement is a ban on any fur or leather from his dressing room, and nothing with animal print or animal fur — either real or fake.

The rock icon also only travels in limousines without leather seats.

McCartney tours with his own catering team, serving vegan and vegetarian food only to anyone working on his concerts.

“I tell them ‘People will sometimes make fun and say ‘Oh, bloody veggies, man’, so you’ve got to be the best restaurant in town,” McCartney told News Corp.

“And they are. The only joke is I’m the one who takes least advantage of it, I don’t eat before a show. The whole band and crew do, they’re all putting on weight during the tour, but it is good, meat-free food. It’s a style of life that I like and it’s always done me good. And a bunch of animals good too.”
