Rita Panahi: Fruitcake councillors make City of Yarra a laughing stock

Instead of worrying about vacant shopfronts or filthy streets, Yarra Council will be inspecting residents’ bins to make sure they’re properly folding their cardboard.

Yarra Council rubbish re-education instructions

What a fine job the good folk at Yarra Council are doing.

Instead of worrying about little things like streets filthy with used syringes, the staggering number of empty shopfronts or drug addled derelicts, Yarra Council is spending valuable resources ensuring residents are flattening their paper waste and putting it in the right bin.

Woe betide those who aren’t properly folding their cardboard or making the mistake of putting food smeared paper plates or boxes in the recycling bin.

Those who fail to recycle correctly may be shamed with a tag attached to their bin to “encourage” better behaviour.

Under the ‘Yarra Waste and Recycling Revolution program’ (that’s its real name, comrades) the council is trying to change the behaviour of recalcitrant residents by inspecting their bins.

It seems the environmentally-minded inhabitants of the inner city suburbs of the City of Yarra — including Richmond, Collingwood and Fitzroy — are producing enormous amount of waste due to their online shopping habits.

The council had considered changing its current fortnightly recycling collection to weekly but councillors voted to retain the fortnightly model.

There’s some delicious irony in learning that the people who elected Australia’s first Greens-majority council are producing more waste than residents in other municipalities who seem to get along fine with fortnightly recycling bin collections.

Talk about rampant consumerism among the chardonnay socialist set.

What did City of Yarra residents expect when they elected these fruitcakes to represent them in local government or did they not know the agenda of the radical Left candidates?

Last year’s council election saw every single Green candidate on the ticket elected along with a couple of socialists.

You vote for crazy, you get crazy and my word the good folk of Yarra have not wasted a second in showcasing abundant reserves of insanity.

Just last month, Yarra became a national laughing stock for flying the “aromantic flag” at council buildings in solidarity with “those whose experience of romance is disconnected from normative societal expectations or who experience no romantic attraction,” to quote Gabrielle de Vietri, the far Leftist mayor of the far Leftist council.

Also, last month we learned that Yarra, along with Moreland and Darebin councils, will use ratepayers’ money to run courses to train climate change activists how to effectively protest.

Yarra council also failed to acknowledge let alone celebrate Australia Day.

The council website refuses to even call the national holiday by its name, instead it’s labelled ‘January 26’. How Orwellian.
