Jeff Kennett: No new events in 10 years is sad

There have been no new annual events added to Victoria’s event calendar in the last 10 years. Relying on what we have achieved in the past is no recipe for the future.

Kennett - Is the Andrew Allen Pallas government the worst in Victorias history?

Events, conventions, entertainment, the arts and sport, are not only important for the economic value they bring to the state for the totality of our hospitality industry.

Importantly for the wellbeing, and mental health of our population.

Victoria has staples in sport, the Australian Tennis Open, the AFL season, our Spring Racing carnival, Formula 1 for cars and bikes.

They involve hundreds of thousands of Victorians at work and at play.

Our theatres are home to constant productions.

Hamer Hall, the National Gallery, the MTC and our cultural organisations spread throughout regional and rural Victoria stimulate heart and minds.

Sadly, reneging on the Commonwealth Games has harmed our international reputation for new events.

Sadly, there have been no new annual events added to Victoria’s event calendar in the last 10 years.

Relying on what we have achieved in the past is no recipe for the future.
