Duchess of Sussex: ‘With love, Meghan’ Netflix show promotes edible flowers for breakfast

Sprinkle edible flowers on your breakfast, says Meghan Markle in her new Netflix show. Doesn’t she know there’s a cost of living crisis? Meghan, read the room, writes Julie Cross.

This morning I decided to elevate my usual bowl of Weet-bix with a couple of blueberries after being inspired by Meghan Markle’s new Netflix promo.

I would have added “a sprinkle of edible flowers” as she suggested, but I didn’t have the money or the time to go to Harris Farm.

I briefly considered my poinsettia, but it looked past its best-before date and not very appetising.

The Duchess of Sussex, who left the UK because she craved privacy, has this week relaunched herself on Instagram and is promoting her new eight-part lifestyle show ‘With Love, Meghan’ in which she shares food with friends (in-laws and dad not invited, obviously).

In it she talks about taking ordinary food and elevating it to let people know how much you’re thinking of them. Adding edible flowers to brekkie was one of Meghan’s brainwaves, although, it’s not really a great cost-of-living tip is it?

Amusingly others, who have watched the promo in which she lovingly drizzles oil on hummus (gosh, I’d never have thought of that) have been giving their own tips online on ‘elevating’ ordinary food; one suggested adding a splash of tomato sauce to fish and chips, and another recommended topping baked beans on toast with, wait for it, cheese.

The problem with everything Meghan does is that it comes across as fake, and it’s all so … I don’t know, nauseating.

The promo pans across a beautiful kitchen. There are shots of her wandering around a huge vegetable garden, collecting honey from a beehive and choosing flowers for a bouquet (her tip is that she is drawn to one colour and then works from there). Amazing!

It reminded me of the excerpt from Finding Freedom, written by the Sussexes’ go-to journo friend Omid Scobie and co-author Carolyn Durand, which revealed that Meghan was a genius when it came to packing clothes.

“She has always taken pride in being a great packer,” they frothed, “going as far as layering dryer sheets in between her clothes to keep them smelling fresh and no matter her destination always bringing tea-tree oil for bites, cuts, and pimples”.

Urgh.

I should try and be kinder, but then I remember, she and her husband Prince Harry made millions of dollars out of rubbishing his family, and has never allowed her own father to meet his grandchildren.

Meanwhile, I invited my in-laws for Christmas, because I genuinely wanted to spend time with them.

I managed to stuff up the stuffing, but we had fun anyway. Perhaps it was the redcurrants we added to the ice cubes (yes, we pulled out all the stops). There’s a tip for you, Meghan.
