Who is Patti Pink Cake?
It is the mystery that has gripped the world and sent a well-heeled Sydney socialite viral with her daily dress-up videos that has even caught the attention of pop star Kylie Minogue.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the identity of Patti Pink Cake to be former legal aid solicitor Patricia Lyden, a self-made woman who has a deep passion for horse racing and sailing that mixes with business leaders, celebrities, top bureaucrats and even former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
“Happy weekend in Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Barbour and Burberry! Too much? Never!!,’ reads the caption on Lyden’s most recent post, where she showed off her weekend fashion look.
British comedian Alan Carr is a fan, as is Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden, who last week herself went viral when she posted a TikTok video imitating designer-wearing Patti, who has amassed 22,000 fans on Instagram with her daily outfit checks.
In Holden’s take, she breathily talks her followers through her outfit, making comical comments like: “It’s daytime, but it’s still a bit sexy.
Wearing a yellow sundress, Holden continued: “You know me, that’s just how I like it. I know you’re asking if there’s a scarf, and yes there is.”
Holden tagged the video that was posted to her 1.8 million Instagram followers and 1.2 million TikTok fans #ifyouknowyouknow and #pattipinkcake, captioning: “Find her on Insta, she’s fabulous”.
Her fans, unaware of the satire, flooded Holden’s feed with concern, comparing her quirky post to a 2007 Britney Spears-level breakdown and asking the media personality if she was all right.
The UK press even ran stories explaining that Holden was imitating a ‘Sydney based fashionista’.
Kylie Minogue shared Holden’s video, tagging Lyden and with the caption: “Oh Mandy!!! #ifyouknowyouknow”.
Watch just a few of Lyden’s videos, and you’ll see designer scarfs, bags, and coats (always tossed dramatically) are staples.
When contacted directly by the Telegraph, Lyden declined to comment about her booming following, nor would she divulge details about her life.
A deep dive into her social media revealed she is an old money socialite from Double Bay, with close ties to horse racing that stretch back decades.
Lyden recently shared photos of herself from the Australian Vogue social pages in 1994, in which she sports a red full length suit that she re-wore to Derby Day at the Randwick Racecourse in 2004.
In her youth, she was friends with the likes of horseracing great Nick Moraitis and rugby league great, Johnny ‘Chook’ Raper. Patti is also friends with Australian Turf Club Director Angela Belle McSweeney and celebrity hairdresser Joh Bailey.
Typically, Lyden only shares her expensive outfits, photos of her cappuccinos, her horses, and “the view” from various cafes in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. She’s a retired lady of leisure, and now an icon of the streets of Sydney.
“I’m happy to see that so many people are enjoying my dress up videos,” Lyden said in an interview with a local blog. “It’s a small part of who I am but if people like it, or find it hilariously odd, that’s fine with me.”
She is also a South Sydney Rabbitohs fan, enjoys the Sydney Royal Easter Show and has family ties to the Cooma area of NSW.
Images in The Daily Telegraph photo library show the corporate side to Lyden. She was photographed in 2013 at Burwood Local Cout alongside then Minister for Women Pru Goward and then Member for Strathfield to announce $60,000 funding towards a Legal Aid NSW pilot program aimed at reducing breaches of Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders.
In 2018, she attended the official unveiling of John Olsen’s The Dancing Frog by then Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
