Wet week ahead: Sydney set for persistent rain, cooler temperatures and gusty winds until Sunday

Sydney is in for a stretch of wet and windy weather, with rain forecast through to Sunday.

Sydneysiders should brace for a soggy stretch ahead, with rain expected to settle in from mid-week and linger right through to the weekend.

After a mostly dry start to the week, a cold front moving across NSW will bring a sustained run of wet weather, cooler temperatures and gusty winds across the city.

Monday and Tuesday will see sunny skies, moderate UV levels and mild temperatures around 18C.

Winds will be fresh from the west and northwest but are expected to ease in the evenings and only a slight chance of an evening shower is forecast for Tuesday.

The real change arrives on Wednesday, when showers are forecast from the morning onward, bringing an 80 per cent chance of rain and a notable drop in temperature.

The day will remain cloudy and cool, with highs struggling to reach 17C and winds will swing to the south and begin to pick up, setting the tone for the days to follow.

Thursday and Friday continue the trend, with frequent showers and gusty south-westerly winds.

Thursday brings another 80 per cent chance of rain and highs around 16C, while Friday looks particularly damp, with soaking afternoon showers forecast and temperatures topping out near 15C.

The unsettled weather will extend into the weekend with Saturday expected to be breezy with periods of rain, while Sunday may bring some relief, though morning showers are still likely and skies will stay cloudy.

Temperatures will hover in the mid-teens, remaining cool throughout the remainder of the week.

With umbrellas and layers a must from Wednesday onward, the city’s brief sunny spell will soon give way to a wet, wintry finish to July and a damp start to August.
