A contact has been signed to build a new $8.7m clubhouse for Warringah Golf Club.

The double-storey “golf and community club” to be built at North Manly will include facilities that are open to the public and other sports organisations.

And the new “family-friendly” facility will feature a range of eateries and bars and be poker-machine free under an agreement with Northern Beaches Council.

The council, which owns the golf course and Warringah Golf Club, had vowed to include facilities that were open to the public and other sporting groups, not just club members.

The new club recently gained approval to operate as a registered club with a liquor licence.

Club officials have confirmed that it had contracted Sydney builder, Prime Projects, to construct the clubhouse on the edge of the soon to be revamped Warringah Recreation Centre at North Manly.

The two-storey premises, to be located on the eastern edge of the golf course, is replacing the old drab and unpopular clubhouse on Condamine St that was sold in 2021.

As well as a pro shop and administration offices, it will feature a restaurant on the first floor, which will seat up to 60 diners, alongside a function room. Both will face a long terrace overlooking the 18-hole golf course.

A sports bar, capable of holding 50 customers, will be located on the ground floor, near an outdoor garden lounge, accommodating another 50 patrons.

News of the contract comes seven years after the club fought off a push by the council to reduce the golf course to nine holes so it could create more sports fields.

Work on the new clubhouse was expected to begin in July and take between 10 to 12 months. Club president Scott Campbell said the building would be funded by the club, and would welcome golf club members, recreational golfers, tennis and squash players from the adjacent recreation centre.

Mr Campbell said the agreement with Prime Projects marked an exciting and important milestone, which secured the future of the club that he predicted would become a “recreation destination”.

“The new clubhouse will serve as a hub for the local community, providing a contemporary space that offers exceptional dining, event spaces, and all the amenities needed to make every visit a memorable one,” he said.

Mr Campbell confirmed that the club now had a 20-year lease on the full 18-holes plus a 20-year lease for the clubhouse.

Prime Projects managing director Daniel Swinnerton, said his team was committed to “delivering a top-tier clubhouse that will serve as a high-class asset for the club, its members and the local community for years to come”.
