Layla-Maria Grubb was described as “a shining light” at Village Nation — the dance school in Sydney where she studied.

It is believed the 18-year-old died from a medical episode.

Her mum Beth Ashton told news.com.au her devastated family is just trying to get through each hour as it comes after the devastating loss of Layla-Maria last weekend.

She announced on Facebook: “With our broken hearts and sadness we would like to share the passing of our beloved Layla-maria, Our baby girl left us far too soon.

“Layla-maria, brought so much joy, light, and love into the lives of everyone who knew her.

“A gorgeous dancer, who moved through life with the same beauty and passion she brought to the stage. Her laughter, kindness, and beautiful spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

“Though her time with us was far too short, her impact will remain in our hearts, forever 18.”

Friends of the family said in a Go Fund Me post: “Our hearts are shattered with the devastating news of Layla’s passing.

“Layla was pure light – an amazing dancer with an infectious laugh! She was the funniest, goofiest, most vibrant girl you could ever meet, lighting up every room with her laughter and fun.

“No one plans for the unthinkable loss of a child As we all navigate this unimaginable grief I want to help lighten the financial stress, we want to give Layla the send-off she truly deserves.”

A funeral service for Layla will be held at Eastern Suburbs memorial park in Sydney at 1pm on Friday and live-streamed at a gathering at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre in WA, a stage where she performed so many times and “having one last hurrah”.
