The Veronicas, Amy Shark, Mallrat: to head Elevate Sydney concert

The Veronicas, Amy Shark and other huge Aussie names will headline a free Sydney music festival which will shut down the Cahill Expressway for five nights of music and events.

The Cahill Expressway will be transformed into a music festival featuring The Veronicas and Amy Shark as the Elevate event series returns next year.

Split into three events — Elevate Family, Elevate Social and Elevate Nights — the free festival will bring live music and family friendly entertainment to a stage with the ultimate harbour view this January.

Elevate Nights features Aussie pop superstars The Veronicas, Australian Idol judge and singer Amy Shark, and rapper and musician Mallrat.

Rounding out the line-up is Betty Who, Client Liaison, Thelma Plum, Drax Project and Becca Hatch.

For families with younger kids, global sensation Bluey and her sister Bingo will say hello at the Elevate Family event, a street party with fun and games along the iconic strip.

Amy Shark will perform at Elevate Sydney.

For the adults there’s Elevate Social, a dance party celebrating electronic music with sets from Kinder, Kito and Running Touch.

“Whether you are after family friendly entertainment, afternoon DJ sessions, or high

energy performances by renowned artists as the sun sets and into the night, ELEVATE

Sydney will ride the wave of the new year buzz all week long,” NSW Arts Minister Ben Franklin said.

“Bring your family and friends, select a session that works for you and join the party as

we celebrate Summer in Sydney and living in or visiting the best city in the world.”

The festival made its debut this year to a modest audience as a covid outbreak kept the huge crowds at bay.

The Cahill Expressway will shut to motorists for the New Year celebrations on December 26 and reopen January 9.

The controversial road is hated by many in Sydney including Lord Mayor Clover Moore, who has urged the state government to demolish it entirely.

Premier Dominic Perrottet has previously touted the idea of transforming the roadway into a New York style highline for pedestrians.
