After 17 years together, pop duo The Veronicas have sparked speculation of a break-up. Now the identical twin sisters are addressing the rumours.

Surprise – The Veronicas are still together.

The identical twin pop duo sparked a frenzy of speculation after going dark on social media and releasing singles as solo artists.

Media outlets widely reported that it was the end of the pair although The Daily Telegraph can reveal it was in fact a publicity stunt for an alcohol brand, a dangerous tactic in a fake news era.

“The Veronicas are absolutely still together,” Jess Origliasso told The Daily Telegraph.

“We are 100 per cent still going. We can’t afford to split The Veronicas just yet. In fact, we have some new Veronicas music that we are working on that we are very excited about.”

Lisa Origliasso said: “It has been really empowering to be able to step away for a minute and go, ‘what do I want to do here? What do I want to write about? What do I want to say?’”

“Even though we are identical twins and people know us as a unit and there is so much power we find in that, to have an opportunity as creatives to be able to step out of that for the first time ever and for such a wonderful empowering message has been entirely transformative on a whole other level.”

The Veronicas of course are one of our top female acts who released their chart-topping debut album, The Secret Life Of … in 2005.

The Vodka Cruiser campaign, titled The Solo Project, is “committed to removing barriers to female and femme fun”.

The 4Eva duo are hoping to stimulate conversation and education around female empowerment through their songs Seeing Stars and Cruisin On My Own.

The Origliasso twins have confirmed the band isn’t breaking up – their social media blackout was a publicity stunt.

“The whole concept of the band separating for this campaign is the metaphor for stepping in and doing something scary and new and different,” Jess said.

“It is the acknowledgment and having fun and self pleasure in just yourself. I know my strengths within our dynamic, Lisa knows her strengths, and the scary thing in this was you don’t have that to lean on so you have to fully embrace yourself and I think we have both been a little nervous to do that. In that regard, it was almost like a social experiment.”

Sex and relationship expert, Chantelle Otten, partner of Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott, is also on board as an ambassador for the campaign.
