The inaugural Bachelorette winner, builder Sasha Mielczarek, has listed his recent Bowral residential project.
The striking near all-white property has been scheduled for February 24 auction with $3.2m price guidance from Sarah Burke and Kirsti Sturluson at DiJones Bowral, who saw a bumper 20 parties through its first open for inspection.
The 919sq m Merrigang St property comprises two residences – a three-bedroom 1890s home with raked ceilings and a separate self-contained studio, making it ideal for a dual-living set-up. The modern studio with a vaulted ceiling and gable windows contains a mezzanine bedroom.
Mielczarek had paid $1,315,000 for the rundown 1890s cottage, with his mother Kym, in 2020.
“My mother and I purchased the property at the start of the pandemic with the aim of restoring it to its former glory,” he told his 106,000 Instagram followers. “We couldn’t be happier.”
Mielczarek credited his mother as his “eyes and ears during construction”. It was listed for rent at $1800 a week on its late 2022 completion.
Mielczarek did well with his previous Southern Highlands new-build. In the Retford Park Estate subdivision on the outskirts of Bowral, the building block had been set to be bought with Bachelorette Sam Frost, from whom he’d won the final rose in the first series of the Channel 10 show in 2015.
But by the time of its $420,000 settlement in 2016, they had broken up. While reality starlet Frost became a radio host and Home and Away actor, Mielczarek, a builder by trade, pushed on with the construction of the home, which became a $1450-a-week rental until its sale for $2.6m in 2020. In 2020, Mielczarek bought on the southern Gold Coast, with his partner and now wife, Carly Cottam.
The $2.15m purchase secured a 2018-built, single-level home on 605sq m in Burleigh Waters with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a media lounge room and rear pool.
Cottam, a champion rower, founded the property sales and marketing firm MOTIV, having previously been at the Melbourne apartment developer, Gurner.
They had a baby girl, Stevie Marie, last August.
RADLEY IN RENEWED PUSH FOR WAVERLEY
Sydney Roosters enforcer Victor Radley is having another go at selling his Waverley home.
Its November auction marketing campaign came with a $4m-plus guide, with similar expectations this time.
The 25-year-old NRL lock, who has been at the Roosters since making his 2017 NRL debut, paid $2,999,000 for the 1930s home in 2021 before a redesign by KY Design.
The plans by the premiership-winning carpenter, estimated to cost just under $50,0000, involved adding a third level, home to three bedrooms.
Radley has been seeking something more family-friendly with partner, marketing professional Taylah Cratchley. The couple this month welcomed their first baby, Vinnie Cash Radley.
The Radley auction listing comes amid the start of fresh 2024 offerings as local agents seek buyers following the traditional summer break, which finishes with the Australia Day festivities.
However, there is just one other Waverley house up for auction.
It has been relisted too, by interior designer Lara Ette and her husband Greg Kaspar, head of fixed income at Westpac.
They have $5.5m hopes for a February 17 auction through PPD agent Alexander Phillips, having been on the market for 108 days.
There’s been sparse data and few anecdotal occurrences to signal any vendors’ rush to list.
There were 25 house sales in Waverley last year, with a $3,425,000 median, according to PropTrack.
LANDSCAPER’S PARADISE HAS LINK TO HOTEL
Acclaimed landscaper Michael Bates has listed historic Albert House in North Sydney.
The Georgian-style sandstone house goes to February 10 auction with $3.8m guidance through McGrath agent Peter Chauncy.
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom house was constructed after its sandstone blocks were carted by bullock drays in the late 1800s from the demolished Albert Hotel, one of North Sydney’s earliest drinking establishments on Mount St.
Bates, who is planning a move to the inner west, has been there since paying $1.93m in 2010 to casting agent Martin Bedford.
Albert House is set not far from Anderson Park, enjoying district views from its elevated 278sq m Margaret St holding. Bates set out to create a series of landscaped terraces overflowing with rich colours and textures designed to be admired at the ground level and from its balcony.
It’s a quintessential Sydney School garden, bringing together traditional North Shore plants and sub-tropical exotics.
Bates’s landscaping assignments through the decades have included the Hermitage estate at Vaucluse for hospitality industry billionaire Justin Hemmes, and Pirramimma, the former longtime residence of legendary entertainer Reg Livermore, near the escarpment in the Blue Mountains.
