The alleged leader of the Alameddine crime clan is known as “The King” in Lebanon, where he has been joined in recent weeks by some of the group’s highest-profile associates.
Rafat Alameddine has been living in Lebanon since November last year when he left Sydney as a free man just weeks after being cleared of assaulting an Uber driver, and therefore no longer having to abide by strict bail conditions.
The Daily Telegraph has uncovered the photos as the latest episode of its award-winning documentary The War: Nothing is Sacred is released, investigating in part the travels of Rafat and other high-profile gang Sydney figures overseas – seemingly to avoid the police attention that has been constant for years.
In one group photo Rafat can be seen standing among a group of more than a dozen men and boys, among them a number of alleged Alameddine associates who had flown over from Sydney to join him in Lebanon.
Also with the group, but not featuring in that image, is Rafat’s cousin Hamdi Alameddine.
A significant contingent of alleged Alameddine members and associates have headed overseas in recent years, as NSW Police have cracked down on the clan over their alleged involvement in Sydney’s gang war.
Police sources said the attention put on them had left the Alameddines “decimated” and heading overseas.
While the alleged boss and some senior members live it up in Lebanon, an alleged low-ranking member continued to feel the impact of NSW Police pressure after being charged with possessing two loaded guns, a smorgasbord of drugs and cash.
