A manhunt is underway for an alleged underworld figure after a woman was stabbed during an early morning home invasion in Sydney’s CBD.

Dean William Carr, 42, has been wanted since last Friday on an outstanding arrest warrant related to alleged domestic violence offences against his partner.

Carr is a longtime associate of the Comanchero OMCG and has served previous jail time for a spate of various offences, including drug offences.

Police allege Carr last week assaulted the same woman and breached an AVO that had been taken out for her protection in February this year, the conditions of which explicitly prevented him from attending her Pyrmont address.

But about 4.50am on Sunday, police allege Carr forced his way into her unit in the high-rise luxury complex on Bowman St and stabbed her, before fleeing the scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the woman, before taking her to hospital in a stable condition.

Three individuals were also home at the time of the incident but were not injured.

While Carr has been wanted since last Friday the alleged early morning incident on Sunday was the spark for a ramping up of that manhunt.

Resources including the State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad called in to try and track him down, alongside investigators from the Sydney City PAC.

Carr’s criminal history dates back more than two decades, during which time he has been in and out of prison regularly.

Police sources said Carr is best known as an old-school armed robber, a crime for which he was jailed for seven years in 2012.

Court documents detail how on that occasion, police managed to intervene as “Carr and his co-offenders were armed with a 12-gauge shotgun and a semi-automatic rifle for the purpose of kidnapping and extorting a victim”.

Around that same time he was also jailed for twice refusing to answer questions at the NSW Crime Commission, whose unique powers enable them to charge individuals who do so.

After his release he soon found himself back inside when heavily-armed police turned up at the door to his Earlwood home in 2020.

The Robbery and Serious Crime Squad charged him with supplying a commercial quantity - being 1.13kgs of heroin - but a NSW District Court judge found Carr had not personally had any intent to distribute the drugs himself.

The court also heard he suffered a permanent brain injury in a car crash as a teen.

In a statement, NSW Police urged anyone who spots Carr not to approach him, and to call Triple-0 immediately.

Carr is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, with a large build, between 160cm to 170cm, with brown hair and brown eyes, and is known to frequent the Pyrmont and Earlwood areas.
