Two teenagers have been arrested and charged following a string of alleged offences on Sydney’s train network, including trespass, serious assault and theft.

Officers began investigating after multiple incidents were reported across the rail network between March 30 and April 4.

The first incident occurred shortly before 9.30pm on Sunday March 30, when police were told two males had entered the crew compartment of a train travelling between Central and Strathfield stations.

Just days later, at about 3.30pm on Wednesday April 2, a security guard was allegedly assaulted while attempting to stop a group of teenagers from accessing the driver’s cabin of a train.

During the confrontation, one of the teens allegedly stole the guard’s phone and threw it onto the train tracks before the group fled at Strathfield Station.

Another alleged offence occurred just after 6.10pm on Thursday April 3, when police received reports a group of teenagers had stolen keys from a security guard at the driver’s cabin.

After extensive inquiries, police arrested an 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy at St James Railway Station shortly before 5.40pm on Tuesday. The pair were taken to Day Street Police Station.

The following day, officers executed a search warrant at a home in Malabar, where they allegedly discovered a haul of stolen property including 55 train target boards, 22 bus number plates and one car number plate.

The 18-year-old has been charged with common assault, two counts of entering a crew compartment without permission, stealing from a person and endangering the safety of a person on the railway.

He was refused bail and appeared before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday, where he was granted conditional bail to return to court on April 16.

The 15-year-old was also charged with common assault, two counts of entering a crew compartment without permission, endangering safety on the railway and larceny.

He was refused bail ahead of a children’s court appearance the same day, where he was later granted conditional bail to return to court on May 14.

Investigations into the incidents remain ongoing.
