Man, dog found dead by emergency services workers after Anstey Street, Girards Hill unit fire

Emergency services workers have recovered the body of a man and a dog after a unit fire in the north of the state. Here’s what we know.

Emergency services workers have recovered the body of a man and a dog after a fierce unit fire at Lismore.

Reports came in of the blaze at a unit on Anstey St at Girards Hill about 1am on Sunday,

“Officers attached to Richmond Police District arrived and found a unit well alight,” according to NSW Police

“Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze before recovering the body of a man and a dog from inside the home.”

The man who died in the fire had not been formally identified as of Monday afternoon.

No other injuries were reported.

Police set up a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
