Forget the poolside palms. This sleepy stoner had a 1.6m cannabis plant to lay in the shade under that police quite literally sniffed out, leading to his sentencing in court.
Court documents show that in a bizarre turn of events, when police arrived on other matters at the Corindi Beach home of Adrian Brian Garnett, 50, on April 3 last year, they “smelled a strong scent of cannabis throughout the residence which lingered throughout different areas of the house”.
This led the officers to find the towering cannabis tree near a pool cabana and other items in the house including a cardboard box by a fireplace containing 4.86kg of dried cannabis leaf and a large glass jar containing 800g of self-made cannabis oil.
According to court documents, the mammoth marijuana plant was used to produce cannabis leaf which Garnett then turned into oil and used medicinally to “assist him sleep”.
The offender had previously pleaded guilty on February 25 to possessing cannabis (indictable and less than commercial quantity), cultivating a prohibited plant (small quantity) and possessing a prohibited drug.
Magistrate Julia Virgo sentenced Garnett on Tuesday to a community corrections order for 12 months ending 35 March 2025 and fined a total of $1500 in Coffs Harbour Local Court.
