Zuccoli will get a new commmunity hub regardless of which major political party wins the May 3 election.
Less than a week after federal Labor promised $10 million towards the proposed $13 million facility, the Coalition matched the pledge, with the remaining $3 million stumped up by City of Palmerston.
At an announcement on Thursday, Coalition senator and shadow minister Jacinta Nampijinpa Price said 15 per cent of the Territory’s population lived in Palmerston, and the number continued to grow.
She said the commuity hub would support population growth and boost the economy, with 50 per cent of Palmerston households made up of young families with children.
“That’s why we recognise the importance of comitting to projects such as the Zuccoli community hub,” Senator Price said.
“The Coalition is committed to building strong and sustainable communities and today’s announcement is a wonderful example of that.”
CLP Solomon candidate Lisa Bayliss said the coalition wanted to attract more families to Palmerston by creating a safe, family-friendly community and lifestyle.
“We are committed to restoring and maintaining the unique Territory way of life, especially for our growing suburbs in the Palmerston region,” Ms Bayliss said.
City of Palmerston mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell welcomed the additional infrastructure for the city she represents.
“City of Palmerston always has the community front of mind, and the Zuccoli Community Hub includes essential purpose-built facilities, that will cater for the growing needs of young Palmerston and rural visitors.
“We welcome the opportunity this funding partnership would bring towards delivering essential services and infrastructure to the community. We are excited to be able to progress this vitally important piece of infrastructure for our residents.”
