Police attended more than 100 incidents of anti-social behaviour, 40 property offences and more in a youth crime crackdown operation in the northern suburbs.

POLICE attended more than 100 incidents of anti-social behaviour, 40 property offences and 20 assaults, in a youth crime crackdown operation in the northern suburbs.

On April 7 NT Police announced it was amping up officer presence in Casuarina with mounted unit, police dogs, traffic and foot patrols following an increase in youth criminal activity.

The operation, now complete, in Casuarina involved 78 instances of anti-social behaviour, 30 property offences, and 13 assaults. Twenty-four youths were taken home and a further 49 moved on, while 72 adults were moved on.

In Karama there were 26 incidents of anti-social behaviour, 18 property offences, and seven assaults. Twenty-one youths were taken home and five moved on. A further 19 adults were moved on.

Overall the actions against youths were four diversion considerations for assault, 15 diversion considerations for stealing, and one diversion consideration for being armed in a public place.

There was also one summons for assault, and three arrests for assault.

The actions against adults were: a 21-year-old charged with intent to steal, a 44-year-old charged with assault, and a 49-year-old charged with assault who failed to appear in court and has a warrant issued.

There were a further three assault charges for a 48-year-old, 44-year-old and a 21-year-old.

A 23-year-old was charged with being armed in a public place and for violent conduct, as well as a 34-year-old.

A 36-year-old was charged with stealing, a 45-year-old charged with breaching a domestic violence order, and a 20-year-old for breaching orders.

A 40-year-old was found to have breached bail, a 20-year-old was charged with property offences, and a 43-year-old also charged with property offences.

There were two adult domestic violence application arrests, and seven warrant arrests.

Strike Force Trident members contributed 33 arrests, five summons, 11 diversions, seven warrants, and four breach bail conditions for youths. Of these actions, 38 related to property offences, with 33 attributed to youths.

Superintendent Sean Parnell said the operation was successful.

“This was an extensive operation that had an immediate positive effect,” he said.

“The public can rest assured that when police observe problem areas in our community, we will respond quickly to ensure the safety of everyone.

“The public support for this operation was greatly appreciated by the Police Force. I would like to thank all members involved in this operation, their hard work cannot be emphasised enough.”
