Waratah showed their class as they took control of the contest to see off the challenge of a willing PINT outfit.

Both sides came in off promising last-start victories, but the Tahs were cleaner and quicker where it mattered eager to celebrate the 100 game milestone of their skipper Dylan Collis.

And it was the whole squad’s effectiveness and versatility across the ground that allowed him to bring up his century with an 11.8 (74) to 6.7 (43) victory.

Tahs gave an early show of themselves when an early clearance out of the middle landed uncontested in the hands of Maxwell Kelly, who was all too happy to convert the major.

The Greenants were willing to contest everything they could, but it was an early moment that separated the two sides and unnecessarily turned PINT into the chasers early.

Waratah were able to control the momentum from there with Scott Carlin having a typically strong game picking up possessions and finding ways to supply his forwards.

Robby Bartee and Ricky Monti were others to kick off the game in style, in a side that was able to change the pace to their design.

Connor McDonald kept the Greenants in the conversation with his ruck work and ability to make an impact through the midfield.

That gave skipper Thomas Schott and the busy Thomas Schwarzenberg something to work with, while the big frame of Riley Mayne was a frequent sight around the ball.

However, PINT’s inroads into their attacking 50 was never quite as clean as they would have wanted, with the likes of defenders Dan O’Dwyer and Toby Hutt shutting down momentum.

Riley Irvin was another who impressed, particularly in the third quarter where he found parity at ruck time with McDonald, while Abe Ankers was a constant nuisance in his return to the fold.

PINT had their moments late in the piece when Nield was able to score thrice in junk time to bring his own tally to four and prove his side had by no means given up on the contest.

Waratah capped off their win with a popular goal for Collis, who had the ball delivered to him by Ankers in the goal square and every member of the squad rushed to his side to celebrate.

“I started playing here 11 years ago with a break in the middle, but to get to 100 games in a pretty transient place is something I’m pretty proud to get done,” Collis said.

“Abe couldn’t have made that any easier for me putting it on my lap directly in front for the goal, and we got over the line to put ourselves in a good position so I’m pretty happy with that.

“PINT are a side that hang around for the whole four quarters, they‘ve got a few bigger bodies and turned the second half into a bit of a scrap to ensure we didn’t go further ahead.

“But we felt comfortable most of the game, we’re still slowly clicking as a new group but our recruits are all pretty handy.

“New coach Rick Nolan has been unreal, from the first session you could tell how passionate he is, he coaches the football side very hard and that’s what we’re bringing out on game day.”

PREVIEW

Waratah will be riding high after downing last year’s premiers last time out, but any slip up against the Greenants could prove costly.

PINT will bring their own momentum into the clash after a dominant win last weekend, with both sides determined to keep their season trending on the up.

The NT News and KommunityTV will live stream every moment of the clash from 6.30pm on Saturday.

The Greenants were dominant in the rain against Palmerston last weekend and didn’t let off the pace despite the disrupted contest.

Thomas Schott led the side in possessions and to the victory and considering their close run result to the league’s top side they are in form right now.

Waratahs will be determined to halt PINT’s winning form, after making their return to the field from the bye last round.

Waratah strangled Saints out of the contest in slippery conditions last time out and will use that victory to fuel their run into this match.

Scott Carlin and Brodie Carroll have been playing to their usual strengths to find success, but some newcomers have also made their mark in the Rick Nolan coached outfit.
