MOSES Wigness Jr was born with a life-threatening congenital heart defect, which required urgent surgery.

It was a transport incubator, donated by the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, that saw him taken safely to Melbourne for the surgery that saved his life.

Moses is now a lively three-year-old with a love for all things sport, especially rugby league, thanks in no small part to his father, Moses Wigness Sr, being a life member at Darwin Brothers.

Brothers have dedicated their home game on August 14 to raising awareness for the foundation and have designed a new jersey to represent the cause.

“He was born with a few holes in his heart, it was a very distressing time. But thanks to the Humpty Dumpty Foundation we got him safe,” Mr Wigness Sr said.

“It’s just second to none to see him playing footy now, he’s just full of beans non-stop.

“He loves his rugby league, he loves Brothers. It’s just unreal for the club I grew up with to show support in this way.”

To date the foundation has raised more than $4.6m for the NT and donated 600 pieces of medical equipment to 64 Territory hospitals.

The Brothers’ jerseys, polo shirts and socks will be on sale before the game with all proceeds going to the foundation.

Humpty Dumpty founder and chairman Paul Francis lauded Brothers for the support they showed the foundation.

“It’s absolutely fantastic. The support of clubs like Brothers and the community of Darwin is making such a difference to the outcomes of children across the Territory,” Mr Francis said.

“This contribution will allow us to get more equipment. We have 600 pieces across the Territory, but there is so much more that needs to be done.

“The infant mortality rate is double that of any other state in Australia. It breaks my heart to see that number.

“Doctors and nurses are working with one and two hands tied behind their backs. This is changing and Brothers are helping make that change.”

Darwin Brothers John Adams said supporting the Humpty Dumpty Foundation was about giving back for what the organisation had done for one of the club’s life members.

“Every year we do a fundraiser for different organisations and this year we decided to back Humpty Dumpty considering what they did for one of our life members,” Mr Adams said.

“We’re hoping to raise six to eight thousand dollars, it’s only small, we’re only a small club, but it’s going towards something positive.”
