The Red Centre is rallying behind a beloved Territory mother of three, showing her the same love and strength she has shown others in the wake of a heartbreaking diagnosis.
Alice Springs mum Amanda Connor, 35, was recently diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer, but the community is now stepping up and offering their support during the trying time.
The fundraiser was set up by the Wests Netball club committee – a club Ms Conner was a member of – to help reduce the financial burden on the family, president Sally Crispe said.
Within days the fundraiser had raised almost $80,000 from 500 donations and was still going strong as people passed on their messages of support.
“That’s just a testament to Mandy, really, and how many people love her in this community and her family,” Ms Cripse said.
Ms Connor had been at the club for the last four years, playing as the team’s mid court “pocket rocket,” Ms Crispe said.
“She’s competitive, feisty – a good teammate to have in the midcourt.”
With the diagnosis, Ms Connor wanted to remind the community to be aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer and to get checked up their GP.
Symptoms such as unexplained fatigue, unexplained weight gain or weight loss, urinary changes such as frequency or urgency, changes in bowel habits such as constipation, and more, can all be signs of ovarian cancer or something.
The young mother had also recently graduated from CDU with distinction with a Bachelor of Human Science, and was coaching the under six Stormbirds soccer team in Alice Springs.
“Amanda is a proud Alice Springs local, a devoted mum to three beautiful young boys, and a much-loved member of our netball community,” the online fundraiser read.
“Her warmth, strength, and kindness have touched so many lives across town.
“This fundraiser is a chance for us, her friends, teammates, and community, to rally around them with the same love and strength Amanda has always shown others.
“Every contribution will help ease the financial burden on her family and allow them to make precious memories together.
“Let’s stand beside them and show what the Alice Springs spirit is all about.”
The Red Centre BMX community also got behind the cause sharing the fundraiser and sending their love and support to the family.
“Amanda, your courage reminds us what truly matters, family, love, and community,” a post read.
“You’re part of our BMX family, and we’re standing beside you with full hearts.
“To Adam and the kids, we’re here for you. Always.”
