CHARLES Darwin University now offers the first Master’s Aeromedical Retrieval course in Australia, in partnership with the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and CareFlight.
CDU’s newest postgraduate course will teach students about managing aeromedical retrieval in extreme climatic conditions among a number of other aeromedical areas.

NCCTRC medical director Dianne Stephens said Darwin was the perfect place to deliver the course.
“It’s a little known secret that Darwin is the centre of health emergency response in Australia, we have the NCCTRC has been in Darwin, and that was no accident,” she said.
“We are here because we provided the largest aeromedical retrieval response to the Bali bombings, back in 2002 and since then we have built and grown the NCCTRC to be not only a national health emergency response centre, but an international globally recognised Center of Excellence.”
CDU senior lecturer Paul Bell said the course was another one which would help attract interstate and international students.
“For CDU it will bring people from across Australia into Darwin,” he said.

“It enables them to build networks but the relationship with NCCTRC is that we can then make this a long lasting relationship and therefore we can get that idea that we can teach our education for Territorians by Territorians.”
