Narrow escape for boy, 7, after car stolen while he was in it at Bakewell shopping centre
A seven-year-old boy has had a narrow escape after the car he was waiting in was stolen at a Palmerston shopping centre.

A CHILD has narrowly managed to escape when the car he was waiting in while his mum was at the shops was stolen by a youth.
Watch Commander Wayne O’Neill said aout 5.50pm on Tuesday a woman left her seven-year-old son in the car while she went into a shop at the Bakewell Shopping Complex.
“The mother had gone into the chemist. A youth offender allegedly then got into the car to steal it,” he said.
“The seven-year-old luckily got out of the car.

“The alleged offender then stole the vehicle and drove around Palmerston and picked up another alleged offender in the car.
“Police then searched for the vehicle which was then found in the car park at the Palmerston golf course.”
Police have arrested the 13-year-old teenager who allegedly stole the vehicle and the 12-year-old female she picked up.
The youths were taken home and released into the care of responsible adults and will be summonsed at a later date.
Senior Sergeant Siiri Tennosaar said police were still investigating the circumstances of the incident.
“I thank the members of the public who alerted police to the vehicle’s location, which helped greatly in the quick apprehension of the two youths,” she said.
“It is also a timely reminder to ensure that your vehicles are secured at all times when left unattended as this appears to be an opportunistic theft.”
