Alice Springs man Francis Lechleitner under armed guard following attempted murder charge

Armed guards watched over an Alice Spring hospital bed as a seriously injured man dialled into court facing attempted murder charges.
Francis Lechleitner, 44, is accused of stabbing his 39-year-old partner in an alleged brutal and bloody domestic violence assault in a Gillen home.
Police said they were called to the home at 10.30pm, Sunday January 15 following reports of an assault.
It is alleged Lechleitner assaulted the woman with an edged weapon, with his alleged victim taken to hospital in a serious, yet stable, condition.
The 44-year-old was also taken to hospital with reported self-inflicted injuries.
He remained under police guard for his hospital telephone link into the courts.
Lechleitner was charged with attempted murder, intending serious harm and causing harm and contravening a domestic violence order.
The 44-year-old will return to court on February 23 for a preliminary examination mention.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant David Munro said the woman appeared to be recovering from her injuries.
“Addressing domestic and family violence in our community is one of the highest priorities for the Northern Territory Police Force,” Sergeant Munro said.
