Botox, boob jobs, coffee pods, laser hair removal, pedicures and bed sheets are among some of the wild items Australia’s OnlyFans stars are trying to claim when lodging their tax returns.

While some items are acceptable under Australian Taxation Office rules, cosmetic surgery and beauty treatments are off the list.

H&R Block’s director of tax communications Mark Chapman said some adult content creators were trying to claim procedures like breast implants on tax.

Cosmetic surgery, such as lip fillers, is not a tax deduction.

“We had one office where there was somebody trying to claim for fake breasts,” Mr Chapman said.

“And unfortunately, we couldn’t allow it because those sorts of medical procedures simply don’t allow for that. That’s a pretty extreme example of the kind of lengths that people will go to, to claim things.”

Botox relates to personal appearance so is not claimable.

Mr Chapman said Botox and fillers, as well as manicures and pedicures were not allowed as it depended on whether they were personal grooming or medical expenses.

“If the expense relates to your personal appearance in any way, really, it isn’t going to be allowable — it just isn’t,” he said.

Bed sheets are considered a tool of the trade.

“Botox, laser hair removal, all that kind of stuff simply won’t be allowed by the by the ATO.

“And similarly for cosmetic procedures such as facelifts or a boob job, people do try to claim that they are necessary to look good and therefore, that it helps them generate their income.

“But unfortunately, that doesn’t really pass muster with the ATO.

“Basically, medical procedures of any sort are pretty much pretty much out for a tax deduction.”

He said adult industry workers are allowed to claim phone and internet expenses for any work-related usage as well as expenses related to tools, such as fetish equipment, adult novelties and sex toys.

They can also claim “self education costs” for attending courses, such as a masterclass in pole dancing or entry to an industry event such as Sexpo.

MAFS star turned OnlyFans creator Mishel Karen earns up to $7000 per month by posting raunchy content on the adult platform.

The mother-of-two is diligent about claiming phone and internet expenses for any work-related usage as well as travel costs,” she said.

“I get a lot of my toys supplied to me, but I love a big shop in person at the sex shop to see what’s new.

“Lingerie is a huge expense that definitely is costly as you only wear most items for one shoot.

“But I do get a lot of gifts from fans and then I try to sell them afterwards.

“Travel expenses such as accommodation and meals if you travel for work and need to stay away from home overnight.”

The ATO has warned taxpayers to comply with their obligations and ensure they keep the correct records.

“We have sophisticated data-matching and analytical tools in place that enable us to identify people that may be under-reporting their income from a range of activities or over-claiming their deductions,” a spokesman said.

“This includes a program of work looking at lifestyle assets to identify where taxpayers appear to be accumulating or improving assets without reporting enough income to show they can afford them.

“Where a tax return has claims that are out of pattern, or that don’t align with other data we hold, we may stop the return from processing to ask the client to substantiate their claims.”

Sexpo Australia 2022 will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from November 25 to November 27.
