Traffic on the Princes Highway outbound lanes were backed up at Lara on New Year’s Eve after reports a truck’s fuel tank had been punctured.

Traffic on the Princes Highway was backed up at Lara on New Year’s Eve after reports of a fuel leak.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesman confirmed diesel had leaked from a truck just after midday, and crews from the Lara Fire Station arrived on scene just after 12.30pm to discover a punctured fuel tank.

“FRV’s hazmat unit attended the scene and isolated the leak, then used an absorbent to contain the spill and make the scene safe,” she said.

“The incident was declared under control just after 12:40pm and the scene has been handed to Victoria Police.”

A Department of Transport spokesman confirmed motorists could expect minor delays on the freeway as the incident was cleared.
