A COUNTRY music festival could soon be coming to Darwin’s northern suburbs

DARWIN’s northern suburbs may soon have their own country music festival.

Alderman Justine Glover said the festival would help bring character and life back to Karama, which has recently been stricken by a spate of crime.

“I think it’s a magnificent idea, social capital is what we need in the northern suburbs. Karama has been the poor cousin of the other suburbs and this year, one thing we can be proactive in doing is music festivals,” she said.

Ms Glover said she wanted the festival to give a voice to NT artists and create opportunities for them.

“We’re targeting local performers, giving people the opportunity to come on stage and perform,” she said.

“It’s a place that could grow and become famous around Australia and become a good little country muster.”

Ms Glover hopes the music festival will run in June or July.
