A slice of London’s iconic Natural History Museum has landed in Geelong, with a world renowned exhibition on display at the National Wool Museum.
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year 56 exhibition feature images capturing animal behaviour, an array of species and the diversity of the natural world.
Launched in 1965 the competition receives over 49,000 entries from across the world.
This year’s award-winning images will embark on an international tour that will allow them to be seen by over a million people.
The museum’s executive director of science said there had never been a more vital time for audiences all over the world to re-engage with the natural world
City of Greater Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said the competition is loved worldwide.
“The calibre of the artists and international recognition it receives will attract visitors to our region to experience Geelong as a cultural destination,” Cr Asher said.
National Wool Museum director Padraic Fisher said the exhibition was a great way to welcome visitors back to the museum.
“Hosting Wildlife Photographer of the Year is part of our ongoing commitment to bring exciting, thought provoking and accessible programs to Geelong,” he said.
The exhibition runs until May 2.
