Shark warnings have been issued at a popular Great Ocean Road beach.
VicEmergency issued a warning just after 5.30pm on Friday after a shark was reportedly spotted near Moggs Creek along the Great Ocean Road.
Live Saving Victoria confirmed the 2-3m white shark was spotted by the Westpac Livesaver Rescue Crew, evacuating the water between Moggs Creek and Fairhaven with the help of volunteers.
The sighting comes just weeks after a whale carcass forced beach closures between Fairhaven and Moggs Creek on December 17, amid reports of increased shark activity.
An LSV spokeswoman confirmed Fairhaven beach remained open, as the sighting wasn’t near the patrolled beach.
“Life Saving Victoria thanks beachgoers in the area for heeding their alert and leaving the water as instructed,” she said.
“If you spot a shark at a Victorian beach, please leave the water immediately and remember to report it by calling triple-0. If you are at a patrolled beach, notify lifesavers. Leave the water immediately if a lifesaver tells you to do so.”
