Rebound 2020 concert postponed with the NT’s border closure to Sydney barring artists from entering

CLOSURE of the NT’s borders to arrivals from Greater Metropolitan Sydney has postponed the Rebound 2020 concert in Darwin, with most of the artists billed to perform at the event now stuck down south.

The concert has been postponed to October 3 instead, with all tickets already purchased valid for the event’s new date.

“The latest COVID-19 border restrictions placed on Sydney has prevented most of the artists billed to perform at REBOUND 2020 on Saturday, 25th July from coming to Darwin and performing on that date,” a Darwin Events spokesman said.

“We have rescheduled REBOUND 2020 to Saturday, 3rd October 2020 at the Darwin Ski Club.

“The date was decided after consultation with many different authorities and the artists.”

Lime Cordiale, Mallrat, Hermitude and Hot Dub Time Machine were originally scheduled for the concert, with artists to reconfirm their availability over coming days and the event line-up to be finalised on Monday, July 20.

The event, aimed at ‘a younger genre’, would have been the first concert held in Australia since the coronavirus pandemic gripped the country and the world after Reset 2020 – originally scheduled for July 24 – was postponed to September.

All patrons who have purchased a ticket to Rebound 2020 will receive an email with the options they now have due to the changes, including the option of a refund by 6pm on Monday July 20.

The event, which would have taken place on the same day as Splendour in the Grass’s ‘Splendour Saturday’, was on track to sell out over the weekend or early next week.

However, a Darwin Events spokesman said the company was confident the event wouldn’t be postponed again.

“We can assure you that this event will not be postponed or cancelled again due to artists not being able to travel to the Northern Territory, except if the Northern Territory borders close again which is very unlikely,” a spokesman said.

“We like you are very disappointed that this will not be happening, particularly given that the event would have SOLD OUT either over this weekend or very early next week.”
