PRIME Minister Scott Morrison is pushing the manufacturing industry to revive jobs and lead the way in the Queensland economic recovery.

The Australian PM met with state opposition leader Deb Frecklington, MP Angie Bell, MP Karen Andrews and MP Laura Geber at Neumann Steel Fabrication in Currumbin on Saturday morning.

The visit was to promote jobs in the lead up of the Queensland 2020 state election on Saturday October 31.

“I’m here to get Queenslanders working again,” Mr Morrison said.

“Innovation, recycling (and) manufacturing is all happening here on the Gold Coast and we need to keep it happening.

“In this week’s budget we continue to lay down those settings and support for companies like this (Neumanns Steel).

“To ensure they have the right tax and so they can invest in new equipment.”

As part of the 2020 national budget, it was announced on Thursday 2.3 million Queenslanders would be getting tax cuts between $20 and $50 a week, depending how much they earn, with another $1080 to $1280 after they fill out their tax returns from July next year.

Mr Morrison said on Saturday his focus is to “put money back into pockets”.

“Two million of those Queensland workers are on low to middle incomes. That’s where our focus is and that will put money back into the pockets of Queenslanders,” he said.

“It’s really important because here in Queensland, while states like NSW have seen a growth back in their employment with some by 70 per cent, since the pit of COVID-19 recession.

“Here in Queensland, those jobs coming back have only been 44 per cent. So we have to do more to get Queenslanders working again.

“We are a proud nation and we want to build things.

“The manufacturing industry is going to lead us to economic (recovery).”

LNP state opposition leader Mrs Frecklington added “Queensland has had the highest unemployment rate in four years. That’s unacceptable”.

Neumann Steel has roughly 550 employees, with about 350 of those working on the Gold Coast.
