A $120 million plan has been announced to provide a long-term fix for one of the M1’s most notorious exits.
The LNP have committed to funding the project at Exit 57 in Oxenford, which would include flyovers and bypasses, if they win government in the state election on October 31.
A $25 million upgrade to the intersection was completed last month, however Theodore MP Mark Boothman said the work was a “band aid solution”.
“This (the LNP plan) will reduce traffic congestion through the interchange and on local road networks that lead into the interchange, benefiting local businesses and residents entering the M1,” Mr Boothman said.
“The LNP will step up and fix Labor’s bungled works.”
Member for Coomera Michael Crandon said the LNP’s planned $125m upgrade would create hundreds of jobs during construction.
“The upgrade to Exit 57 will prioritise Queensland-based businesses, creating 370 local construction jobs,” he said.
“Mark and I have listened to local residents and business owners who want a solution that will unlock the potential of the northern Gold Coast, which is one of the fastest growing regions in Queensland, yet protect the lifestyle we enjoy.”

Transport Minister Mark Bailey last month told the Bulletin that a major upgrade of Exit 57 could cost “hundreds of millions”.
“The LNP have already made $23 billion in unfunded promises,” Mr Bailey said.
“Now Mark Boothman wants commit to yet another project that could cost Gold Coasters hundreds of millions of dollars.”
Mr Bailey defended his government’s record of delivering M1 upgrades.
“We started and completed the upgrade to Exit 54 at Coomera, nearing completion on the upgrade to double capacity at Exit 57 interchange at Oxenford and shovels will soon hit the ground on the Exit 41 upgrade at Yatala South,” he said.
