TWO men facing charges over the shooting deaths of 30 horses at Killarney Station last year have been given a new court date.

Timothy James Playford and Glenn Littlechild, who each face charges of damage to property and aggravated cruelty to animals, will return to court on February 23.

At the pair’s first appearance in November, defence counsel Jon Bortoli said the men would fight the charges, adjourning the matter “given the size of the brief” with a view to proceeding to a contested hearing in the Local Court.

But police prosecutor Leighton Arnolt said they would not consent to the case being heard summarily and requested a committal mention so the case could be heard by a Supreme Court judge.
