LAWYERS representing the Swansea couple arrested and charged over the alleged 2009 murder of Shane Geoffrey Barker say they have barely scratched the surface of the evidence handed to them by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Noelene June Jordan, 66, and Cedric Harper Jordan, 68, appeared in the Supreme Court in Launceston on Monday morning for directions hearings having each pleaded not guilty to one count of murder.
The couple are jointly accused of killing their 36-year-old former son-in-law by shooting him four times at his Campbell Town home on August 2, 2009.
Barker’s body was found the following morning with detectives refusing to close the case – making it one of Tasmania’s longest-running murder investigations.
The Jordans were arrested during the early hours of May 11 this year.
Mr Jordan’s lawyer Evan Hughes said he and Mrs Jordan’s lawyer Fran McCracken had been handed 1.5TB of evidence and documents on a hard drive.
Ms McCracken said police had compiled a “hard drive of evidence” throughout the “long-running investigation”.
“I have not even scratched the surface in relation to it,” she said.
Justice Michael Brett adjourned the matters to October 12 for both partied to indicate whether preliminary proceedings will be required then.
Mr and Mrs Jordan were remanded in custody to appear by video link then.
