A jockey that suffered a partially deflated lung and was knocked unconscious in a fall at Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday has been said to be recovering in hospital.

Kimberley Skinner, strapper at Morphetville Racecourse updated fans of Clark’s condition on Facebook last night. Ms Skinner said Clark was “okay and a tough cookie”.

“Very sore and bruised but will be okay after some rest.”

Clark’s manager, Warren Conroy said last night there was no concerns.

Conroy said Clark wasn’t talking much and had “a fat lip and a concussion” so she wasn’t talking much — but had lots of visitors.

News of where Clark stands on the matter is thought to be announced at some point today, Conroy said.

The 26-year-old, rode four-year-old mare Goodgee in Race 7 on Saturday afternoon.

After the race was finished Goodgee clipped the heels of another horse and fell, rolling over Ms Clark.

The incident is believed to have occurred at a crossing point more than 200m after the finish of the race.

There have been reports that a horse following behind Ms Clark may have also trampled her.

The formerly Tasmania based jockey was briefly knocked unconscious, prompting ambulance crews to rush to the scene.

A South Australian Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a 26-year-old woman was being treated.

She was initially declared critical but is understood to have regained consciousness and was responsive to paramedics and race staff.

Conroy last night said she had suffered a partial collapse of her left lung but had been cleared of any neck fractures or breaks.

He said she would spend the night in hospital and was likely to undergo concussion testing in the coming days.

This is not the first time Ms Clark has been injured in the pursuit of victory.

In December 2015, she was trampled behind the barrier in the lead up to a race at Spreyton.

Her mount Lingo bucked her off and dragged her treading on her.

She was placed into an induced coma out of fears she had suffered a serious head injury.

But only a few days later she was given the all clear and was only suffering a “monstrous headache”, sore shoulders and facial abrasions.

Ms Clark is considered a rising star in the South Australian jockey community after making the move to the mainland in 2017.

In August she was crowned both the SA Jockey of the Year and Apprentice Jockey of the Year on the back of winning the Metropolitan and Provincial and Country Jockey titles in both the Senior and Apprentice categories.
