DARWIN’s 11-year-old legendary entrepreneur Angus Copelin-Walters took out gong at the Oscars for small business in Australia

Darwin 11-year-old Angus Copelin-Walters is the toast of Australian Small Business prompting Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison to salute his success.

Angus, founder of the iconic Croc Candy brand in Darwin at just seven years of age, won the Champion Sole Operator Award at the national Small Business Champions Awards in Sydney at the weekend.

The Australian Small Business Champions Awards, is the Oscars for small business and recognises small businesses for the hard work and dedication required to run a thriving small business and celebrates the people behind the brand.

The 1000 strong gathering of the nation’s business community elite gave Angus a standing ovation in recognition of the magnitude of his achievement at such a young age.

Prime Minister Morrison said his mate Angus is an “absolute champion.”

He described the drive, courage and unshakeable work ethic Angus and other award winners have shown over the past year as inspirational

Angus, who had gone to the national awards expecting nothing more than the opportunity to meet and mingle with business peers, said he was proud to be able to stand on the awards stage and say he was from Darwin.

“It was an amazing night … I am proud to be a small business from the Northern Territory and winning this award is truly exciting,” he said.

“I love this business and enjoy being able to provide local businesses, organisations and visitors with a memorable and iconic treat from Darwin.”

Since its inception in 2017, the Croc Candy brand has grown significantly, moving into the retail market and winning a contract to supply chemist shops throughout the Territory.

Angus’ equally proud mum Joanne said this is a game changer for Croc Candy in terms of a sustainable future.

“Angus built Croc Candy with the vision to help others in our community and donates to dozens of charities,” Joanne said

“With perseverance and sheer determination, Angus spreads joy and light throughout the community and promotes the Northern Territory everywhere he and his Croc Candy treats travel to.”

Angus said his core value is to promote awareness of dyslexia, and to encourage and inspire other young people.

“I have always enjoyed helping others.,” he said.
