Date set for Dan Murphy panel’s first community meeting

AN INDEPENDENT panel set up to review the proposed Dan Murphy’s Darwin superstore have set the date for its highly-anticipated first open community meeting

AN INDEPENDENT panel set up to review the proposed Dan Murphy’s Darwin superstore will be holding its highly-anticipated first community meeting next Wednesday.

The panel will be meeting with individuals and groups from Darwin’s Indigenous, business, health and education communities and other sectors from Tuesday, March 2 until Thursday, March 11.

They will also be holding an open community meeting on Wednesday, March 10.

People who wish to attend have been asked to register online and the location of the meeting will be determined after final numbers are confirmed.

Panel chair Danny Gilbert said the open community meeting was designed to hear others’ views not already in contact with them.

“It is important for the panel to hear from anyone who feels they have a material interest in the proposed Dan Murphy’s store,” he said.

“We want our review to be as broad and as comprehensive as it can possibly be.”

The panel will review the proposed Dan Murphy’s development and provide a report to the Woolworths’ Board containing its conclusions and recommendations.

The review will consider the adequacy and nature of stakeholder engagement relevant to Darwin Dan Murphy’s development; the extent to which stakeholder concerns are factored into decision-making of the development; and best practice as it might apply to the supply and sale of alcohol from the proposed store as it impacts the lives and best interests of Indigenous people.
