New Year’s Day was extra special for a Geelong family who welcomed a newborn on the first day of the year.

Little Samyra Kaur was due on January 2, but determined not to miss the start of 2021 she came in early at 12.30am on January 1 at Geelong hospital.

First time parents Manveen Kaur and Tanmeet Singh said after a tough 2020 the birth of their first child was extra special.

“You just feel like it’s a blessing ... you just forget all of the things you worried about before,” Ms Kaur said.

The little bundle of joy weighed 2730 grams and was 47cm long.

Ms Kaur said she had enjoyed sharing the news of Samyra’s birth with family and friends.

“Everyone is so happy and I hope this year will be wonderful,” Ms Kaur said.

“I am so excited to be a mum for the first time and to have a baby of my own.”
