Beautiful Buckskins on parade at annual championships

THE golden coloured horses with the black points, manes and tails have always been favourites in Australia.
Known worldwide as Buckskins, in Australia they were referred to as “creamies” — considered tough and hardy and highly prized as working horses.
The famous little Buckskin in The Man from Snowy River was Charlie Lovick’s Denny, with Gerald Egan doubling for Tom Burlinson riding Denny down the spectacular “terrible descent”.
Today, the Buckskin is very popular, with its colour appearing in show classes and all types of performance.
The Buckskin Society’s annual championships held at Geelong Showgrounds had horses and ponies of all shades from a smoky silver through to classic gold.
Last week, Casey Bruce was busy giving the great grey champion racehorse Chautauqua his first look at show horse life at the Show Horse Council’s Horse of the Year Show.
This week it was to show her dad Rob Gaylard’s favourite Buckskin pony Xtra Smart of Sefton at Geelong to win the Grand Supreme Led Section A title.
“It was so lovely to pull my little mate Bucky out of the paddock and head to the National Buckskin titles. This little pony always amazes me, winning Grand Supreme Champion Section A, and Supreme Gelding.”
The Supreme Ridden Section A horse was Zilarah Park Elusive ridden by Grace Humphries and owned by Julia Grave and Brittany Jubb.
Karlana Spring Chatter went home with two sashes, for the Grand Supreme Led Section B, C and D group and the Supreme Ridden Section B, C and D group ridden by Grace Humphries.
The best youngstock of the Show in Section B, C and D was Ajay Signi’fyd shown by Anna Webb and Gracefield Glitter and Gold won the best two years old in the B, C and D group for Kim Simpson.
The supreme harness exhibit was Daydream Voltaire’s Total Eclipse owned and driven by Sally Henderson.
