THIS is the kind of sight that will make your skin crawl.
A Melbourne fast-food customer says he was horrified to find maggots inside his original recipe chicken that he purchased from a KFC eatery in Preston.
Reinier Marco purchased the chicken from the Northland store and took it home before making the disgusting discovery.
“I counted at least eight maggots in there,” Mr Marco said.
“We called the store and then took the chicken back to them. The manager apologised and was clueless as to how this happened.”
Upon inspecting the chicken, Mr Marco told the Herald Sun that management gave him an explanation of how their chicken was prepared, before giving him a refund.
When contacted, KFC Australia denied that the maggot infestation was a result of their food preparation.
“We are dismayed to see the footage but it’s unlikely this situation happened in-store,” a KFC Australia spokesman said.
“KFC works closely with leading Australian forensic entomologists to understand flies to ensure our in-store cooking and food handling practices can keep our food safe.
“Latest studies show that flies only deposit eggs in food with temperatures between 10C and 40C.
“We hold our raw chicken below these temperatures and our cooked chicken well above so again, it’s unlikely this situation happened in-store.”
Despite admitting that restaurant manager’s explanation was “believable”, Mr Marco says he doubts he’ll ever eat KFC again.
“We just wanted to let the public know that this can happen and to look twice before eating food from a restaurant not only from KFC.
“We don’t think we’ll ever eat KFC chicken again. At the moment we don’t even want to eat chicken as that image of maggots is still very clear in our heads.”
