A paramedic was hit in the jaw while helping a woman at an anniversary because the family felt the emergency crews took too long to get there, a court was told.

Levi Rulon Hilton, 34, also pushed two police officers, injuring them, at a gathering in Labrador in September 2020.

Hilton pleaded guilty in Southport District Court on Monday to two counts of seriously assaulting a police officer and one count of serious assault of a public officer.

An ambulance attended Marine Parade, Labrador, on September 28, 2020 to help Hilton’s brother’s girlfriend.

The brother became hostile due to a perceived “delayed response time”, the court was told.

Police officers began arresting Hilton’s brother, which sparked a brief scuffle.

Hilton pushed a police officer, causing him to fall on his back on the road. He suffered sprains to both arms.

The father pushed another police officer in the face and dragged him to the ground, causing a sprained wrist and cuts.

The family had gathered in Labrador to mark the anniversary of his brother’s death some years earlier.

Paramedic Adam Flory, who was in court for sentencing, was pushed in the jaw.

“It’s not OK to verbally abuse or assault a paramedic,” Mr Flory told media outside court.

The court was told Hilton was remorseful.

He was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment, with an immediate release on parole.

Convictions were recorded.
