A Sydney lawyer who allegedly claimed to be a gang member as he tried to extort half a million dollars from his wife has stormed out of court before his hearing was abruptly called off.

Bankstown-based immigration solicitor Leonard Jacob is accused of threatening to shoot his partner Sandra and another man, declaring “I don’t give a f**k how many Ibrahims he knows.”

The Sydney University alumni, who allegedly told his wife he’s a member of the Assyrian Kings street gang when he hammered her with furious text messages, was due to face a hearing at Fairfield Local Court on Thursday.

The 42-year-old Bossley Park man was preparing to fight charges of assault, demanding property with menace and three counts of stalking and intimidation.

But before the hearing kicked off Jacob was heard swearing and aggressively yelling at his lawyers inside a court interview room next door before leaving the building entirely.

Once Jacob returned to court his barrister Gregory Stanton said there would be “impediments with the matter proceeding” and it was adjourned until March.

The head of Sydney Immigration Law firm then swore as he left court a second time, only to discover his Mercedes parked outside had been issued a ticket.

Police allege Jacob demanded his wife Sandra give him $500,000 in a series of texts between midnight and 4am on October 3.

Mr Jacob allegedly told his wife “U and him f**ked with the wrong Assyrian King”, adding he would kill her and a man called Greg unless they came up with the money.

“Or else he will see a grave,” Mr Jacob allegedly wrote.

“And you too.” Jacob allegedly repeated the demand two minutes later, texting “I am happy to go to hell any time”, before threatening to bring a gun to their home.

“And I’ll bring the gat (gun) home tonight to show u … I am ready to die,” he allegedly wrote.

“Tell Greg I’m coming … I don’t give a f**k how many Ibrahims he knows.”

The Assyrian Kings gained infamy in 1997 when the gang was held responsible for the murder of police officer David Carty at Fairfield.

The group was thought to have dissolved but reformed under the name DLASTHR (The Last Hour).

Jacob, whose family fled Iraq for Australia in 1979, was also charged with assaulting his wife twice in September.

On the first occasion, police allege Jacob ordered her not to talk back to him, telling her: “you get on your knees and you apologise.”

Once the woman got on her knees, Mr Jacob allegedly punched her in the head.

Police took out an apprehended violence order against Jacob to protect his wife but in November Jacob’s lawyer Omar Juweinat successfully applied to amend his bail conditions to allow some contact between the couple.

Mrs Jacob told the court she wanted to move back into the family home, explaining that she did not fear for her safety or that of her children.
