A MOTHER beaten in a terrifying home invasion may have been tied up for nearly two hours before police were alerted.
The woman ran from the Hillside property to a neighbour’s house, covered in blood, after being assaulted in her own home.
Two men broke into the family home in Speargrass Drive before stealing the woman’s mobile phone and car.
It’s believed the 55-year-old woman was hit in the face during the burglary.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Natalie Webster said it’s believed the offender broke into the Speargrass Drive home about 11am.
The men fled with the victim’s phone and drive off in her car, a champagne VW Passat with registration VAK158.
The woman, who is a mother to adult children who live at the property, ran to a neighbour’s house for help about 1pm.
Detectives are investigating whether the woman was restrained by the burglars before they fled.
She remains at the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious upper body injuries, and police are yet to formally speak to her.
Family members have gathered at the home to help police with their investigation, while the woman’s children support her in hospital.
Resident Pat Jayasingha said she was scared when police arrived in the street and began knocking on doors.
“I thought maybe it was a robbery, but when I saw the tape come across I knew it was something more,” Ms Jayasingha said.
