THE young woman accused of leaking a sexually explicit video of ex-Collingwood star Dane Swan received a threatening text message demanding she remove the footage, according to her family.
Georgia May Gibson, 20, has been charged with filming a nude romp with Swan, 34, and sharing the footage on social media without his consent.
WOMAN CHARGED WITH SHARING SWAN NUDE FOOTAGE
A close relative told the Herald Sun the woman received a threatening text demanding she have the footage removed or they would “take you down with me.”
The threatening message has been given to Ms Gibson’s lawyer.
The relative said Ms Gibson had paid dearly for her mistakes and hopes she will not be sent to jail.
It is alleged the footage of Swan she posted was taken in Melbourne during the 2017 AFL season.
The six-second clip shows Swan kissing the woman who films his naked body as he attempts to cover his head.
The relative said Ms Gibson posted the footage via Snapchat, which was widely distributed via other platforms.
She has been charged with the visual capture of genitalia and distribution of an intimate image and is facing up to two years behind bars.
Ms Gibson will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on December 10.
Her relative said she plans take the charges “on the chin”.
“It’s hard to see her go through this but there’s nothing we can do about it,” said the relative.
“We are just taking it as it comes.”
The relative said it was a “mistake” that Ms Gibson had paid for in mental anguish.
“I’ve been worried about her since day one,” said the family member.
“It’s been rough and she’s been very upset.
“We all make mistakes.
“We are hoping she doesn’t go to jail for this.”
The relative said Swan also had to answer for his actions.
The footage was allegedly taken while Swan was in a long-term relationship with his partner Taylor Wilson.
He has denied the video is a sex tape.
“AFL players can do whatever they want and nothing changes,” the relative said.
“They are idolised … they are more important to Australians than soldiers.”
Ms Gibson, a nanny from a small town in South Australia, was charged following a four-month sexting investigation by Victoria Police.
Swan, who retired from AFL in 2016, reported the X-rated video to police, begging them to stop it from being spread after it surfaced in May.
The AFL champion personally contacted Twitter users who were spreading the video and threatened legal action unless they removed it from their feeds.
Swan at the time said the footage had been taken “a long time ago” and that it was a “gross breach” of his privacy.
“It was taken and distributed without my consent,” he said.
Ms Gibson grew up in Meadows, where she volunteered for the local footy club.
She left the small town over a year ago, and is well regarded by the local community.
“She is a nice girl,” said one.
Ms Gibson declined to comment when contacted by the Herald Sun.
Swan debuted for Collingwood in 2003 and was regarded as one of the team’s greatest midfielders.
He was awarded the Brownlow Medal in 2011.
He retired five years later due to injury and has made appearances on reality TV programs including I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
