Shooting victim will have shotgun pellets in his body forever

A MAN who was shot by an associate of the stepdaughter of Carl Williams will have pellets from the shotgun blast in his body for the rest of his life.

A MAN who was shot by an associate of the stepdaughter of slain underworld figure Carl Williams will have pellets from the shotgun blast in his body for the rest of his life.

Serkan Kala, 23, was shot by Tugay “TJ” Afacan after a dispute last November.

Afacan was encouraged to shoot Kala by Sanar Ghanim — the partner of Danielle Stephens, the daughter of Roberta Williams.

Charges against Stephens over the shooting were dropped last month.

Kala was hit with shotgun pellets in Broadmeadows after a dispute developed over text messages he sent to Afacan's sister.

In a separate case, Kala appeared in the County Court today to plead guilty to charges of extortion with threats to kill, extortion with threats to inflict injury, robbery and false imprisonment.

The court heard Kala targeted a man who worked at McPherson Motors in Shepparton in 2013.

Over a number of weeks Kala tried to get his victim to hand over $9500 and threatened to kill him, his mother, his brother and girlfriend if he didn't co-operate.

On one occasion he threatened him with a machete.

Kala pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 440 days in prison — which he has already served — and given a two-year community corrections order.

The court heard that since he was shot last year he has been on anti-depressants. He still has shotgun pellets lodged in his face and two close to his heart.

Judge David Parsons said: "The pellets have to remain in your body for the rest of your life."
